Neighborhood Survey

We have a short survey we'd like everyone to fill out.  It'll take you about 3 minutes to do. We're trying to make sure that the issues that the residents are most concerned about and the ones the Board feel are most important - match. We all need to be on the same page in working on our neighborhood.  Everything is anonymous of course.  Click to take the BVHA Survey.

City Launches CodeRED System

Code Red AlertThe City of Garland has contracted with Emergency Communications Network, Inc., of Ormond Beach, Florida, for its "CodeRED" high-speed telephone emergency notification services.

Such urgent notifications would include water main breaks, large electric utility outages, time-sensitive public health alerts, hazardous chemical spills, emergency evacuation alerts and more.

To ensure no one is omitted, Ms. White, the City’s Public and Media Affairs Manager, urges all individuals and businesses to log onto the City’s website, www.ci.garland.tx.us, and follow the link to the "CodeRED Residential and Business Data Collection" page. Those without Internet access may call 972-205-2828 to provide their registration information. Required information includes first and last name, street address, city, state, zip code, and primary phone number.

The CodeRED system is a geographical based notification system, which means street addresses are needed to select which phone numbers will receive emergency notification calls in any given situation. The system works fine for cell phones too, but we have to have a "street address". People who have recently moved but kept the same listed or unlisted phone number also need to change their address in the database.

The information will only be used for emergency notification purposes". Questions should be directed to the City of Garland Public and Media Affairs office at 972-205-2879.

Garland Citizens ForumGarland Online Forum

There's a new online forum for Garland residents. www.garlandcitizensforum.org

Registration is required (keeps it from being abused) and you don't need to use your real name when posting.  The current categories are:

  • Election 2006
  • City of Garland
  • Garland Power & Light
  • Garland City Council
  • GISD School Board
  • Garland Community Happenings
  • Economic Development Issues

New subjects can be easily added, and each area is moderated.  This forum was not created by the city - this is by residents, for residents. The hope is that a broader online community can help make a better community.

Garland Code Ordinance

As we mentioned in the September Newsletter, there's been much discussion over the state of our sidewalks, curbs, and driveways.

The consistantly asked question is what part of the repair work falls to the city, what part to BVHA, and what to the homeowner? The answers are always more complicated than we'd like.

The short version: the main body to look to for remedy of your deteriorating sidewalk, parkway, curb, and driveway adjacent to your home is you.

Click here to download Garland Code Ordinance Article X, Section 31, to learn exactly how you fit into the infrastructure repairs.
